Pilar W. Iampieri, M.S., CCC-SLP is a pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist serving the four-county region around Mount Airy, Maryland. Pilar received both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Radford University. Pilar spent 2 years working for the Infants and Toddlers Program and 7+ years working with children from birth to 10 years in a non-public school for children with Autism.
Pilar recognized the need for a local service provider who catered specifically to families navigating speech and language disorders—and one that could offer an individualized, family-centered approach. She is now the owner of Pilar W. Iampieri, MS, CCC-SLP Speech-Language Therapy Services, an in-home pediatric speech therapy practice. Pilar provides play-based and family-centered speech therapy for infants and toddlers, preschoolers, as well as services for school-aged children. Collaborating with families, primary caregivers, and other specialists is the core of Pilar’s mission. Pilar is Hanen certified in both their ‘It Takes Two to Talk’ and ‘More Than Words’ programs. Both programs focus on caregiver education and methods to encourage speech and language skills. It is a foundational skill for the services Pilar provides. Pilar believes in a total communication approach which encompasses and values all forms of communication equally. She has a vast background in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and has experience using and implementing a variety of low and high-tech communication modalities. Pilar has had advanced training in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), as well as training in Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP). Communication is a basic fundamental and human right and Pilar strives to help her clients communicate effectively so that they can be included, make choices, express their thoughts and feelings, and achieve independence. When Pilar’s not working, she loves spending her time with her husband and son, hiking with their dog Indy, and traveling. |
