Pilar Iampieri is the founder of Pilar W. Iampieri, MS, CCC-SLP Speech-Language Therapy Services, a pediatric speech therapy practice serving the four-county region surrounding Mount Airy, Maryland. Recognizing the need for a local service provider who catered specifically to families navigating speech and language disorders—and one that could offer an individualized, family-centered approach—Pilar founded her private practice.
Pilar provides play-based and family-centered speech therapy for infants and toddlers, preschoolers, as well as services for school-age children. Collaboration with families, primary caregivers, and other specialists is the core of Pilar’s mission. Current research shows that children with speech and language difficulties do best in their natural environments: the places where they live, learn, and play. From her commitment to providing accessible in-home care, to tailoring that care on a family-by-family basis, Pilar's goal is to help families set up their children for long-term success.
Pilar is Hanen Centre certified in both their ‘It Takes Two to Talk’ and 'More Than Words' programs. These programs focus on caregiver education and methods to encourage speech and language skills. It is the foundation for the services Pilar provides.
The Hanen Centre is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the best possible language, social, and literacy skills in young children. Pilar completed her 'It Takes Two to Talk' training in 2009 and 'More Than Words' training in 2012 as a way to further her education and expand the skills she is in turn able to teach to parents of children with speech and language disorders. Hanen's programs focus on intervention strategies that families can use with young kids delayed in their speech and language development. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, Pilar might get an hour or two a week with a child, but there are hundreds of other hours in the child’s week—and there are so many things a parent or caregiver can do at home to improve therapy’s effectiveness. Because kids experience the most language growth in environments in which they feel comfortable, part of Pilar’s job is to integrate Hanen's philosophy into her clients’ home lives via private therapy sessions.
